A pop up shop container or shipping container cafe lets you open on a boardwalk, jetty, golf club or precinct without waiting years for a conventional fit-out. At Container Build Group we build those cafés, bars and retail modules in South Lismore, then deliver them Australia-wide — factory-finished, ready to trade.

Coffs Harbour Jetty Container — Coffs Harbour Jetty café — 20 ft high-cube pop-up with timber cladding.
What a pop-up shop container is
A shipping-container pop-up starts as a new or converted high-cube shell and becomes a trading space: servery hatches, cladding, stainless or timber interiors, coffee machines, cold storage and branding. On our pop-up shops hub we describe fully customised coffee shops, cafés and beer-garden bars that can be relocated or permanently secured.
Typical uses:
- Drive-through and walk-up coffee
- Precinct bars and kitchens (wharf, entertainment, tourism)
- Golf-club and sports-venue cafés
- Side-opening retail and expo displays
- Temporary or permanent hospitality on constrained sites
Interior finish options listed on the hub include tiles, stainless steel, stone, wood, composites and laminates. Kitchens can integrate fridges, ovens, coffee machines, sinks and shelves. Optional extras called out on the hub include a lightweight drop-down deck and branded removable or permanent pop-out awning roofs with electric motors.
The hub also publishes an average cost range of $30,000–$70,000, which may differ based on needs — we confirm the number on your quote.

Factory-built in South Lismore, delivered Australia-wide
Pop-ups are manufactured at 39 Habib Drive, South Lismore NSW 2480 using premium Australian building materials and recycled shipping-container shells where specified. Delivery covers capital cities and regional sites — the same network that places mining lodges and multi-level port buildings.
Need a larger commercial kitchen rather than a servery pop-up? Continue to commercial kitchen containers. For site offices beside a hospitality pad, see shipping container offices.
Designing for trade, not just for photos
A pop-up that photographs well but fails at the hatch is expensive. When we scope a café or bar module we talk through:
- Queue side and serve side (drive-through vs walk-up vs precinct queue)
- Hatch and awning hardware — including gas-strut tilt-ups and safety lock-in bars where used (as on Coffs Jetty)
- Interior workflow for coffee machines, cold storage and dishwashing
- Cladding and deck choices that match the venue — timber eco deck and marine upgrades on coastal jobs
- Whether the unit must relocate after a season or bolt down as permanent hospitality
Howard Smith Wharves shows what precinct-scale looks like: multiple bars and kitchens working as a cluster. Bean & Gone and Coffs show single-module trading. Noosaville shows clubhouse hospitality. Pick the pattern that matches your traffic, then we engineer the shell.
Pop-up vs full commercial kitchen
If your menu is espresso, cold drinks and simple food, a 20 ft café pop-up is usually the right shell. If you need serious cook lines, cool rooms or 14 cooking stations, step up to the formats on our commercial kitchen containers page — Mansfield double-width, 20 ft kitchen modules, or the dual 40 ft Tumbarumba camp kitchen.
Many venues use both: a customer-facing pop-up servery plus a back-of-house kitchen module. We can quote them as a matched pair from the same factory.
Branding and customer experience
Container cafés earn their keep on throughput and brand presence. Hub options include branded removable or permanent pop-out awning roofs with electric motors, plus cladding and interior material choices that carry your colours. Bring logo files and menu equipment lists early — it is cheaper to weld the hatch and bench layout around real machines than to force-fit them on site.
