A demountable (or donga) is a building you can put down, pick up and move to the next job. Ours are built new from steel shipping containers in our South Lismore factory, fitted out to your brief and delivered in one piece. They’re built to handle trucks, cranes and forklifts, and they arrive ready to use.
If you’re weighing up a new demountable against a second-hand unit, a new build lets you set the layout, insulation, power and fit-out to suit your site. You also know exactly what’s gone into the walls.
Demountables by use
Construction and civil sites
- Site offices: the 20ft Office, the Off Grid Office (14.4 m², solar packages available) and the Container Sales Office — 2 × 40ft, which has about 60 m² open plan when the centre walls are removed and reinforced.
- Amenities: ablution blocks in 20ft and 40ft, fully fitted, and the five shower block, which is fully plumbed with dual hot water systems.

Mining and remote camps
- Remote Mining cabin — a 40ft high cube built for the mining industry. It has four separate-access bedrooms, each about 2.2 m × 2.9 m with room for a single bed, desk and wardrobe, and measures about 12.2 m × 2.4 m (around 30 m²) overall. It’s fully insulated, with steel security screens available. It can run off a small generator or an optional built-in plug-and-go off-grid solar unit.
- Remote Camp Site cabin — the same four-room layout, with bunk bed and bench options. You can also go with one or two bedrooms and use the rest as a bathroom, kitchen or lounge. It moves by train or semi-trailer, unloads by crane or forklift, and placing it often takes only a couple of hours.

Schools, clubs and community sites
Schools and sporting grounds usually need amenities, canteens, storage or extra rooms that can be moved when the master plan changes. We build them to your brief. Two good starting points:
- Multi-use Amenities Block — four 40ft containers with two change rooms, a disability bathroom, toilets, showers, a canteen, store rooms and an outdoor area
- 20ft Disability, Ambulant and Store Room unit — full disabled access, a baby change table, a separate ambulant toilet and a cleaner’s store
Buildings used by the public, including schools, fall into a different building class from a house, so bring your certifier in early. The ABCB building classifications guide explains the classes.

Our Camp Kitchen — 2 × 40ft was installed at Tumbarumba Caravan Park through Snowy Valleys Council. The multi-use amenities range was designed with councils and sporting clubs in mind.

How a demountable order runs
- Brief. Headcount, room mix, fixtures, power (grid, generator or solar), site access for a crane or forklift, and how often the building will move.
- Drafting and engineering. Layout and compliance documents for your certifier. We can build to any cyclone rating up to C4, engineered to suit your site and your certifier’s requirements.
- Factory build. Our remote mining and camp cabins are ready 30 working days from order. Bigger packages get a project program.
- Delivery. Delivery is always extra and quoted to your site, by semi-trailer or by rail to your nearest depot (we hold a rail licence).
- Placement. Crane or forklift off the truck, connect services and start using it.

Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between a demountable and a donga?
They’re mostly the same thing: a transportable building you can move between sites. “Donga” is common on mine sites for sleeping cabins. We build both from new steel shipping containers.
Do you sell new demountables or second-hand?
New. Every unit is custom built in our South Lismore factory to your layout and delivered in one piece.
How long does a demountable take to build?
Our remote mining and camp cabins are ready 30 working days from order. Larger camp or lodge packages are programmed per project.
Can demountables run off-grid?
Yes. The Remote Mining cabin can run off a small generator or an optional built-in plug-and-go off-grid solar unit, and the Off Grid Office has solar packages available.
Can you build demountables for schools and councils?
Yes. We build amenities, change rooms, canteens, storage and offices to your brief. The Multi-use Amenities Block was designed for councils and sporting clubs, and our Tumbarumba Camp Kitchen was installed through Snowy Valleys Council.
How are demountables delivered?
By semi-trailer or by rail to your nearest depot, then unloaded by crane or forklift. Delivery is always extra and quoted to your site.
