Boulder Ridge is a container home near Tenterfield in northern NSW, built from eight 20ft high-cube shipping containers. Container Build Group developed and owns it, and it does a job most display homes can’t: you can book a stay, sleep in it, and find out what living in a container home is really like before you commit to building one.

Designed for a cold NSW winter
Tenterfield sits high on the Northern Tablelands, so Boulder Ridge was designed with colder climates in mind. The containers are lined with fully insulated panels, and hardwood timber panelling and copper fittings give the inside a warm, finished feel that doesn’t read as industrial. The large glass walls open the living areas to the bush and the views.
It’s a good example of a point we make to every client: a shipping container is the structure, not the style. The same steel boxes can look raw and industrial, like the Lindendale near Lismore, or warm and lined, like Boulder Ridge.
3 or 4 bedrooms, same standard
Boulder Ridge is a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home, but the design isn’t fixed. We offer it in several configurations, in 3- and 4-bedroom layouts, all finished to the same standard. If you’re comparing shipping container homes for a family, it’s worth seeing how eight 20ft containers add up to a full-size house.

A container home is a big decision, and photos only tell you so much. That’s why Boulder Ridge is on Airbnb. Book a stay, see the space, the light and the finishes for yourself, and ask us anything afterwards. The same property also has a smaller CBG build: the Tenterfield studio cabin, made from two 20ft high-cube containers with a 33-degree pitched roof and a retractable deck.
Building a container home in NSW
A container home needs the same approvals as any other house. What matters most is your zone, your lot and any overlays, such as flood or bushfire.
