The Hinterland sits at Marom Creek in the Northern Rivers, near Lismore NSW. It is a large family home built from seven 40ft shipping containers, lined inside and out so you'd never pick it as containers. The layout opens up to about 450 m² of living space (the floor plan is the equivalent of twelve 40ft containers — about 354 m² inside).

Lined luxury — not an industrial look
If the industrial look of a shipping container home isn't your style, the Hinterland shows the other end of the range. Three layers of wall — containers lined inside and out — give high insulation and strength. Fittings and finishes are high end throughout.
The dining, kitchen and living rooms sit in the centre in an open plan with a 6 m ceiling height. Rows of glass and louvers on both sides bring light and airflow. The kitchen has 40 mm marble countertops, a centre island, soft-close cabinetry and a large separate pantry. The master bedroom and ensuite use two 40ft containers (about 28 m²).
Built in South Lismore, installed near Lismore
The modules were factory-built in South Lismore, then installed on site in about a week. That pace is typical of how we work for Northern Rivers clients: most of the cutting, welding, insulation and fit-out happens under cover before the trucks leave.
